Operation Overlord was in full swing, with about 160,000 men crossingthe English Channel to land on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day alone.
As the battle develops, you’ll want access to more and more fire support totake your objectives. Always the first to respond are the M1 81mm mortars of thebattalion’s mortar platoon. Quick to deploy, mobile and accurate,it’s likely these men will have fired their whole mission before the big boyson the beach will have gotten the sand out of their radios.
