It started with an Airborne assault, hitting vital defences behind the enemylines. It was followed by a full scale amphibious invasion on the beaches ofNormandy. Operation Overlord was in full swing, with about 160,000 men crossingthe English Channel to land on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day alone.
The M3 105mm howitzer offers good punch in a light-weight package. While itsbombardment range is not as good as the M2A1 field howitzer, it makes up forthat with superior mobility and its ability to be transported by glider.
